Rome, NY – Cathedral Corporation is pleased to announce that the corporation’s Florida location has received a Bronze Award in the Sterling Manufacturing Business Excellence (SMBE) Awards.
The Sterling Council and FloridaMakes collaborate on the SMBE awards to recognize the state's high-performing manufacturers. Companies are judged on several criteria including leadership; strategy; customer engagement; measurement, analysis and knowledge management; workforce empowerment; and effective, efficient operations.
Cathedral was one of only four manufacturers in Florida and Georgia to win an excellence award, selected from among 80 nominees, while two others received a nod for high performance and innovation in operations.
“It is an honor for the Sterling Council to highlight and recognize these six manufacturers. Every day they demonstrated high performance in the Florida and Georgia manufacturing sectors,” said Roland Martinez, chairman of the Sterling Council. “These companies have each undergone an intensive and demanding process assessing their ability to address strategic challenges and align company resources to achieve their mission for enduring success. They represent the best of regional manufacturing. On behalf of The Sterling Council and our regional partners, I congratulate each company for these awards.”
"We are honored to be recognized along with these other impressive manufacturing companies. Our goal at Cathedral is to meet and exceed our customers' expectations. We appreciate the effort of Hillsborough County Tax Collector's Office in nominating us for this distinction," said Marianne W. Gaige, Chairman and CEO, Cathedral Corporation. "We also appreciate the support and resources that FloridaMakes and the Sterling Council continue to offer to the Florida manufacturing sector."
In its nomination, the Hillsborough County Tax Collector's Office said, “As proud partners with Cathedral for seven years, we were honored to nominate them for the 2024 Sterling Manufacturing Business Excellence (SMBE) Award as a high-performing Florida manufacturing company. We chose to nominate Cathedral because they align with our core values of making services more accessible to our customers and the innovative solutions they provide.”
Cathedral’s team accepted the award at the 32nd Annual Sterling Awards Banquet on May 31 at the Hyatt Regency Orlando. To qualify for the award, the Cathedral team welcomed Sterling Council-trained examiners and manufacturing community representatives, who contributed their time and expertise to evaluate all the nominees, including virtual site visits and on-site interviews with managers and employees of each manufacturing finalist.
The Sterling Council celebrated and showcased these companies as they received their awards at the 32nd Annual Sterling Awards Banquet on May 31, at the Hyatt Regency Orlando. They will be featured in plant tours and other activities for sharing best practices to benefit Florida’s manufacturing sector. For more information about the SMBE Award, please visit
